On July 30, 2021, the groundbreaking ceremony of Shenzhen Urban Rail Transit Line 13 Phase II (South Extension) project was successfully held near the project site in Nanshan Shekou Area, which means that the project officially started construction.

The second phase (southern extension) project of Line 13 is laid in Nanshan District. It starts from Dongjiaotou Station, which is transferred to Line 2, and ends at Shenzhen Bay Port Station, Phase I of Line 13. The total length of the line is 4.067km, and the whole line is underground. Laying, a total of 3 stations are set up, namely Dongjiaotou Station, Opera House Station and Sunrise Theater Station.

The project consists of 3 sections: Dongjiaotou Station～Operation Theatre Station, Opera House Station～Sunrise Theatre Station, Sunrise Theatre Station～Shenzhen Bay Port Station. Among them, the shield section between Sunrise Theater Station and Shenzhen Bay Port Station and Sunrise Theater Station are located on the sea-rich and deep riprap stratum. The shield section between Opera House Station and Sunrise Theater Station crosses 17 piers of Shenzhen Bay Bridge. Dongjiaotou Station interchanges with the existing operating Line 2, and partial demolition has a great impact on the operating Metro Line 2. At the same time, it is close to the existing buildings, which is difficult to demolish. After nearly half a year of hard work, the joint construction, design, and supervision of Shenzhen Railway Construction have made scientific deployments, coordinated advancement, and coordinated with the Opera House project many times, so that the Dongge Interval Shaft and Opera House Station have the conditions to start construction. At the same time, this will mark that the seventh difficulty has been solved, and the first shot of the second phase (southern extension) project of Line 13 has entered the substantive construction.

Line 13 Phase I

The first phase of Metro Line 13 starts from Shenzhen Bay Port in Nanshan District in the south and ends at Shangwu North Station in Bao'an District. The total length of the line is about 22.4km. The line has 16 stations, including 11 transfer stations, all of which are underground lines. Extension conditions are reserved at both ends of the line. Neihu underground parking lots are set up along the line, and the access line is connected to Dengliang East Station.

Line 13 North Extension Phase II

The North Extension (Phase II) project of Line 13 starts at Shangwu North Station (not included) and ends at Gongming North Station. The total length of the line is about 19.23km, with 11 stations and 1 depot. After the line is opened, the Guangming Science City will reach the Shenzhen Bay Port in 45 minutes, and it will be directly connected to the Nanshan Science and Technology Park of Xili Lake Science and Education City.
