At 15:58 on August 5, 2021, with the sound of a bang, the Haidong Tunnel No. 0 downstream to No. 1 upstream main tunnel will be constructed by the project manager of the No. 1 bidding project of the Dali II section of the Central Yunnan Water Diversion Project of the China Railway Fifth Bureau. Haidong Tunnel

The Central Yunnan Water Diversion Project passes through Lijiang, Dali, Chuxiong, Kunming, Yuxi, and the Red River. The total length of the line is 664.326 kilometers, of which the diversion tunnel is 611 kilometers. It is the largest investment in water diversion projects in the history of Yunnan Province and currently under construction in China. Construction of the most difficult water conservancy project.

The Haidong Tunnel has a total length of 25.285 kilometers and a total of 6 construction support tunnels, including 4 flat tunnels and 2 inclined shafts. The geological conditions of the main tunnel section from No. 0 downstream to No. 1 upstream of the Haidong Tunnel that have been penetrated this time are complicated. The construction area is close to the Erhai Lake and the environment is extremely sensitive.

As of August 4, 2021, the main tunnel of the Haidong Tunnel has been excavated at 10844.7 meters, accounting for 42.8% of the total length of the Haidong Tunnel at 25,285 meters. The Central Yunnan Water Diversion Project is a landmark project among the 172 water-saving and water-saving major water conservancy projects identified by the State Council, ranking first among the top ten major water conservancy projects in the 13th Five-Year Plan of the country.

In the future, after the completion of the water diversion project in Central Yunnan, the average annual water diversion volume will reach 3.403 billion cubic meters. By then, the plight of water shortage in Central Yunnan will be effectively eased, benefiting 35 counties (cities, districts) in 6 prefectures (cities) along the route and benefiting a land area of 3.69. 10,000 square kilometers, benefiting more than 11 million people.
