Land reclamation and port construction are inseparable from dredgers. The technology of making dredgers has always been monopolized by developed countries, and China has imposed a technology blockade in an attempt to curb China's technological development. After decades of research, the large-scale dredger "Tiens" was finally independently developed in 2006, breaking through the foreign technical blockade.

Since then, the dredgers made in China not only meet domestic needs, but have also been favored abroad and become export products. Until 2017, a ban by China's Ministry of Commerce placed strict restrictions on the export of large dredgers due to national security.

The ban once only occurred in the West against China. Now China has also started a ban on sales, which can only explain one problem. The successful counterattack of China's large-scale dredger manufacturing technology has already formed a brutal crushing situation against the West.

The Sky Whale sat steadily in the No. 1 position in Asia and No. 3 in the world for 9 years before giving way to its brother, the domestically produced heavy-duty self-propelled suction suction vessel, the Sky Wing. The Sky Whale used to create several islands in the South China Sea in less than 200 days. "Tianyu" is not vegetarian, not only can dig silt, but also dig coral reefs and even rocks. The world's largest non-self-propelled cutter suction dredger is the "Xinhaixu", which is purely made in China and has just helped Saudi Arabia build an artificial island. Its brother "New Walrus" is the originator of China's "cargo ship to dredger". In 2001, Fei Long, deputy chief engineer of the 708th Research Institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, took the design team to complete the modification and design of the large rake suction dredger "New Walrus", becoming China's largest dredger at the time.

China's advanced dredger manufacturing technology has also attracted overseas customers. In April 2019, Guangdong COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry built the world's top rake suction dredger "BONNY RIVER" and delivered it to Dutch shipowners. China is already able to afford the name of a big country in the dredging industry.

Bridging the gap is just around the corner

China's progress is huge, but the gap with the West still exists. At present, the global dredger market is still the four largest companies in Europe. Founded in 1910, the Dutch Persian Carris Company is the world's largest dredging contracting company. The Belgian Demi Group began dredging and filling operations in 1852. Belgium's Yangdenu Group only entered the dredging industry in 1951, but its research and development capabilities are super strong, and all equipment is independently designed. Compared with the first three, Van Oder has the smallest volume, with 22 trailing suction dredgers and 19 cutter suction dredgers. As of 2016, China has only over 30 dredgers.

It has been the past 10 years for China to build large dredgers, which is more than the Western policy that has played for more than 150 years. However, the Chinese have never believed in evil, relying on the courage of "daring to call the sun and the moon for a new day", relying on the huge market demand and technology accumulation, it is only a matter of time to fully grasp the technology of dredgers. Of course, what is most lacking now is time.
