Turpan is the place with the highest temperature in China and is known as the Huozhou Island, and the legendary Flame Mountain belongs to it. The highest temperature in history here has reached 49.6°C, and the highest temperature on the surface has reached 89.2°C. Eggs are steamed in the sand nest, and the pancakes are baked on the stone. Similar scenes are very common.

As a major project and an important gateway hub in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the Turpan Tourism Comprehensive Service Center project undertaken by the Third Construction Bureau of China is located here. In the scorching heat, the builders took root in the front line of construction, competed with the scorching sun and the high temperature, and worked hard to build Xinjiang.

The scorching sun and the long summer

Turpan has a unique warm-temperate continental arid desert climate with long summers, averaging 152 days; hot weather with annual temperatures above 35°C, averaging 99 days. Since the start of construction in March, the average temperature of the project has risen all the way, and heatstroke prevention and cooling work has been scheduled early.

In April, catching up with the outbreak in India, the local logistics park was temporarily closed, and all air conditioners planned to be purchased were sealed in the park. Seeing that the temperature was approaching 40°C, some workers could not stand the high temperature and left the site one after another. Liu Jie, the project manager at the time, became anxious. In those days, Liu Jie handed out heat-relief and cooling materials to the workers, and talked with them to soothe their emotions. He went back and forth for dozens of kilometers every day under the scorching sun to implement the logistics situation and ensure that the air-conditioning installation was in place as soon as possible.

Finally, 20 days after the start of the project, the logistics park was unblocked and all air conditioners were in place. The project department took immediate action. Starting from the workers’ dormitory, they worked overtime and installed air conditioners 24 hours a day. A total of 124 air conditioners were installed on the workers’ living quarters, project office areas and construction site tower cranes, creating a relatively comfortable and cool resting and accommodation environment for the constructors. "Seeing that the working and resting environment of the workers has become cooler, at that moment, my heart is finally at ease." Liu Jie said.

High temperature test is not afraid of difficulties

At the beginning of the project, the project production manager Liu Jinlong and his team cleaned the meter every day in the unobstructed Huozhou land. After getting tired, he laid the floor and rested in the board room, and then continued to work.

As the first batch of managers to set foot in Huozhou, Liu Jinlong has already experienced two intense heat in Turpan. The long-term exposure under the scorching sun has plated his skin with a layer of bronze, and his rough and dark hands are a portrayal of his struggle. "Every summer, several layers of skin are exposed to the sun. This is my unique medal!" Liu Jinlong looked extremely proud.

Not everyone can adapt to the hot weather. "The back is the scorching sun, and the front is the steel frame exposed to the high temperature. At first, I also wore short-sleeved inspections, but the hot steel bars were hot and peeled off." The security officer Hu Xiaolong also rolled up his sleeves. Several scalded scars on the arm are still clearly visible.

The continuous high temperature also caused Min Huailiang, a flimsy project politician, to faint on the front line of work due to heat stroke. Fortunately, the workers found him and sent him to the doctor in time. But then he returned to his post and continued to stick to it. "The team is racing against time every day to grab progress. I must not lose the chain at critical moments!" Min Huailiang said.

In this way, the meter was cleared within one month after the project entered the site, the three links and one leveling on the site were successfully completed, the turnover of stacking materials was more than 10,000 tons, and the earthwork was transported out of 300,000 cubic meters, achieving various initial nodes ahead of schedule.

4 tires burst in a day

Since the end of May every year, Turpan has started the roasting mode, and the surface temperature has continued to exceed 60 degrees Celsius. This not only challenges the physical limits of the project builders, but also brings a lot of trouble to the normal operation of the project construction vehicles. The project department and construction vehicles are exposed to the sun for a long time every day, coupled with the continuous operation of the vehicles on high-temperature ground, the risk of tire blowouts has increased sharply.

"Once, my car was filled with sand and gravel. Just after driving out of the project door, I heard two loud noises. I hurried to stop and check, only to find that the high temperature caused two rear tires to blow out." Recalling the scene at the time, project materials The driver Zhou Jie still has lingering fears.

However, during the pre-departure safety check, the other two sets of rear wheels of the loaded vehicle showed tire cracking again. "Four tires were scrapped in one day. Fortunately, I found it early. If it were on the road, the consequences would be disastrous."

To this end, the project installed a multifunctional vehicle dust removal and sprinkler system at the entrance of the construction site to remove dust while also cooling the construction vehicles.

There are good strategies for cooling down

At present, the project is in the main construction stage of the ground floor. In order to grab the construction period, everyone is fighting guerrilla warfare with the high temperature. At 11 am, when I walked into the construction site of Turpan Tourism Comprehensive Service Center project, the real-time temperature had reached 37.3 degrees Celsius. The heat wave was engulfed from all around, and my skin felt scorching hot after standing under the scorching sun.

"We go to work at 6:30 in the morning, take advantage of the coolness, and do more!" said Liu Chuanpu, a Sichuan homeworker. In the scorching sun, Shang Huaiyi, the project site safety officer, was distributing Huoxiang Zhengqi water to the workers. Later, he walked into the construction site again and sprinkled water with water pipes to cool the construction site.

In the heatstroke prevention and cooling work, the project team worked hard to formulate the high temperature emergency plan at the first time, the sprinkler equipment was turned on regularly, the water was sprayed to reduce the site temperature, and the work and rest time was reasonably adjusted. The construction was stopped during the high temperature stage at noon to ensure that workers have sufficient Break time.

Regarding how to deal with high temperature weather, the project strengthened safety warning education, improved the self-protection awareness of managers and workers, regularly distributed heatstroke prevention and cooling medicines and anti-heat supplies, and ensured all-round heatstroke prevention and cooling.

The sky is cloudless and there is no wind, and the scorching heat and temperature are the same every day. Turpan's high temperature continues, and the contest with the scorching sun is still going on. Sweat is swaying on the steel and iron bones, and a monument is about to stand in the wilderness, with fierce beliefs and rushing dreams. Editor/He Yuting
