The new crown epidemic in 2020 has greatly affected the globalization of trade. As the epidemic prevention and control measures have taken effect, the multilateral trade process of various countries has continued to recover. Recently, British Foreign Secretary Raab attended the online signing ceremony of the UK-ASEAN Dialogue Partnership, officially establishing a partnership with ASEAN. This is the first partnership reached by ASEAN in 25 years and will strengthen close cooperation between the UK and ASEAN on issues such as trade, investment, climate change, environment, technology and education.

ASEAN covers ten influential member states in the Indo-Pacific region. By becoming a dialogue partner, the United Kingdom will formally establish a relationship with the alliance, including participation in the annual Foreign and Economic Ministers' Meeting and other ministerial meetings.

The status of dialogue partner will allow Britain to enter the core of the Indo-Pacific region. The UK will work with ASEAN and its member states to address common challenges such as maritime security and transnational crime, promote bilateral economic development through trade, and strengthen cooperation on issues such as the new crown epidemic and climate change. It will also help the UK deepen its economic ties with ASEAN. The total GDP of ASEAN is 3.2 trillion U.S. dollars (2.3 trillion pounds). In the four quarters to the end of the first quarter of 2021, the total trade volume between the United Kingdom and ASEAN was 32.3 billion pounds. There is great potential for economic cooperation between the two sides.

British Foreign Secretary Raab said: "This is a milestone moment for the UK to lean towards the Indo-Pacific region. Our closer relationship with ASEAN will help create green jobs, strengthen security cooperation, promote scientific and technological partnerships, and protect the "United Nations Ocean Important international laws such as the Law Convention."

British Secretary of State for International Trade Truth said: “With accession to the CPTPP and trade agreements with Singapore, Vietnam and other countries, it will provide opportunities for British companies in this high-growth region with a population of more than 650 million, enabling them to travel across the UK. Expand and create jobs." Editor/Xu Shengpeng
