Due to the uneven distribution of resources in China, various resources in eastern China are relatively scarce, especially power resources are very tight. In order to solve this problem, China launched the West-East Power Transmission Project to transmit power from the western region to the eastern region. This project inevitably needs to cross large rivers, and the Yangtze River has become a sky grab. In order to break through this sky grab, China only took 14 months to build a super project 78 meters from the bottom of the Yangtze River. This unprecedented project is Sutong. So what is GIL? The so-called GIL is to lay gas-insulated metal enclosed power transmission lines in underground tunnels. This technology uses metal conductive rods for power transmission and seals it in a metal shell to achieve insulation through pressurized gas. This technology has many advantages, such as The power transmission is large, the loss is small, and safety can be guaranteed.

Since we want to dig a tunnel under the Yangtze River, we must rely on an artifact, that is, a shield machine developed by China. Compared with manual tunnel excavation, the shield machine has the advantages of safer, more efficient and environmentally friendly. Nowadays, domestic Major projects can no longer leave the shield machine. It is the Zhuoyue shield machine that participated in the excavation of the Yangtze River underground tunnel.

But even if there is a shield machine, it is not easy to dig a tunnel under the Yangtze River, because the Sutong GIL integrated pipeline corridor project has also created a number of domestic firsts, and it is also a major project in the world. The world's highest transmission voltage level, the largest transmission volume, and the most advanced technology level, and for the first time to apply large-diameter shield tunnels to power pipe gallery projects, it can be regarded as a model of domestic and foreign power transmission tunnel projects.

The implementation of this project enables the UHV AC between Huainan-Nanjing-Shanghai to realize a dual-ring network, making an important contribution to the safety and stability of power in East China. While realizing power transmission, it protected the environment of the Yangtze River, achieved the coordinated development of man and nature, and once again proved China's infrastructure strength to the world.
