The joint venture between Systra and KBR has been awarded an independent certification service contract for the Sydney Metro West Project. As part of this package, the joint venture company will independently certify multiple work packages through design, construction and completion, including tunnels, stations, integrated station development, line width systems, trains, control systems, maintenance and operations.

The Systra-KBR team drew on the company's individual experience in providing design and IC services in Sydney Metro Northwest and Sydney Metro City and Southwest. The joint venture will perform its role as an independent certification service through an independent perspective, while contributing to a large number of transportation, employment and housing benefits solutions for the Sydney community. Systra Australia was also named the winner of independent certification services for Sydney Metro Northwest and Sydney Metro City Southwest.

The Sydney Metro West Underground Railway will connect the Grand Parramatta and the Sydney Central Business District. The subway connection will be 24 kilometers long-confirmed by 9 new stations in Westmead, Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Piers, Bay, Pyrmont and Hunter Street is in the central business district of Sydney.

In 2021, Bechtel was appointed as the integration and delivery partner of the project. In July 2021, the New South Wales Government awarded the Australian Arjona Construction Company and the Australian Ferrovia Construction Company a joint venture of A$1.96 billion (US$1.4 billion) for the 11-kilometer double tunnel tunnel project and 5 Excavation and civil works for a new station.

Construction of the Sydney Metro West End will begin in 2020, and it is expected that the new connecting line will be put into passenger service in 2030. After the completion of the new railway line, Sydney’s transportation system will be transformed, the railway capacity between the two CBDs will be doubled, the new community will be connected to railway services, and employment growth and housing supply will be supported.
