Qatar Petroleum Company (QP) has awarded Técnicas Reunidas an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for onshore facilities related to the Qatar North Oilfield expansion project. The initial value of the contract is estimated to exceed 500 million U.S. dollars.

According to the terms of the contract, Técnicas Reunidas will be responsible for the expansion of existing liquid product storage and loading facilities. Liquid products include condensate, propane and butane. In addition, the Spanish EPC contractor will handle the expansion of the monoethylene glycol import facility in the Ras Laffan Industrial City and other supporting facilities and pipelines related to the North Field expansion project. The initial scope of the contract must be executed within 41 months.

The scope of the EPC-3 package awarded to the company includes the construction of liquid product decomposition lines, lean gas pipelines, expansion of Ras Laffan Terminal Operations (RLTO) product storage and loading facilities, expansion of monoethylene glycol storage and transfer facilities, and CO2 injection wellheads. CO2 storage pipelines and related facilities. The company will undertake detailed engineering work in Qatar.

Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of Qatar Petroleum Company, said: "The award of this major EPC contract is part of the North Oilfield expansion project, which supports the further development and consolidation of Qatar's vast natural gas resources.

"The contract provides for the expansion of the existing infrastructure to ensure the safe loading and on-time delivery of related liquid products to our international customers." The LNG project is scheduled to start production at the end of 2025. It will increase Qatar's LNG production capacity from 77 million tons per year (MTPA) to 110 MTPA.
