Sergey Lebedev, the director of the Russian Institute of Economic and Transportation Development, said that the representatives of the Russian Railway Corporation and the Institute of Economic and Transportation Development visited the area along the road from Kolym in the Republic of Yakutia to Magadan Oblast. In order to assess the possibility of constructing a railway along the line.

Russian Railways general manager Oleg Belozerov said a year ago that the company is studying the possibility of building a direct railway line to Magadan by 2035. He believes that building a railway can help the state develop mineral resources. At present, the railway only goes to Lower Besgakh in the Republic of Yakutia, and there is no railway to Magadan Oblast.

Lebedev said: "We are drafting a feasibility report for the construction of the Yakut-Magadan railway. We are drafting a construction strategy for this section of the railway."
