India plans to become a global leader in green hydrogen. The country proposes to mandate the use of green hydrogen in fertilizers and oil refining. Electricity Minister RK Singh told the US President’s Special Envoy for Climate (SPEC) John Kerry. According to a statement from the Ministry of Electricity, in a telephone conversation last night, Singh also told Kerry that India would invite bids for green hydrogen in the next 3-4 months to encourage the viable use of hydrogen as a fuel. It said that India is considering bidding for 4000 megawatts of electrolyzer capacity.
According to the statement, Kerry congratulated India on its achievements in renewable energy, reaching 146 GW of renewable energy, of which 63 GW is under construction and 25 GW is under bidding.
"Federal Minister RK Singh has informed Mr. Kerry of India’s plan to become a global leader in green hydrogen. India proposes to mandate the use of green hydrogen in fertilizers and oil refining. This is part of the government’s commitment to replace gray hydrogen with green hydrogen. "The statement said. Singh emphasized to the special envoy of the US President that Prime Minister Narendra Modi attaches great importance to the environment. He suggested that India and the United States can cooperate in the field of power and technological innovation, and pointed out the requirement to reduce the cost of renewable energy storage.
The Minister informed Kerry of the country’s recent milestones achieved by over 100 GW of installed solar and wind power capacity. "If we also increase hydropower capacity, the total installed renewable energy capacity is 147 GW. In addition, 63 GW of renewable energy capacity is under construction, which makes India one of the countries with the fastest increase in renewable energy capacity." It said.

Singh also told Kerry that the national hydrogen mission has been launched to achieve cost-competitive green hydrogen production. He added that India will make a competitive bid for green hydrogen in the next 3-4 months, paving the way for the viable use of hydrogen as a fuel. Other countries need to think of more electrolysis plants to reduce costs. It is suggested that India should strive to establish an alternative lithium supply chain to ensure the input materials for battery energy storage.Editor/Baohongying
