It is said that Chengdu has high logistics costs and inconvenient foreign trade. However, the arrival of the China-Europe Railway Express and the new China-Myanmar corridor is expected to completely change this situation. Recently, a piece of good news came: the new China-Myanmar Corridor (Yangon-Lincang-Chengdu) sea-road-rail combined transport test cargo arrived at Chengdu International Railway Port for the first time. According to reports, the cargo departed from Singapore and shipped to Yangon Port in Myanmar via road transport from Lincang, Yunnan, and then went directly to the capital by rail.

Chengdu is located in the west. In the past, goods often passed through the South China Sea, landed in the Pearl River Delta area, and then transported to the Chengdu-Chongqing area by rail. The journey around a large circle greatly increased logistics costs and correspondingly increased logistics costs, which was time-consuming and labor-intensive. But now that there is a new China-Myanmar channel, there is no need to detour through the Strait of Malacca. Directly disembarking from Yangon, Myanmar, greatly shortened the transportation journey.

In the past, the eastern region was the frontier of opening up, and Chengdu was the rear area. Now that there is a new China-Myanmar channel, Chengdu is also at the forefront of opening up. In addition to the new China-Myanmar corridor, there are also China-Europe trains. Currently, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi'an, and Zhengzhou are doing the best, while the eastern region is far behind.

Why is Chengdu doing a good job while the eastern region is so economically developed but not? The reason is simple, the eastern region is far away, and the logistics cost is low near Chengdu. Compared with the eastern region, Chengdu has many inherent shortcomings, but it is also incomparable to the central and eastern regions, that is, it is geographically closer to Europe and Southeast Asia. This cannot be changed in any way.

The new China-Myanmar corridor and the China-Europe railway have even given Chengdu an unparalleled advantage in the eastern region. Europe has a developed economy and strong consumer demand. Southeast Asia has a population of nearly 700 million and has great potential in the future. Now with the new China-Myanmar corridor and the China-Europe railway, it will greatly shorten the time and space distance and trade costs with these regions.

In the future, Chengdu's trade with Europe will not need to bypass the Strait of Malacca. However, the fly in the ointment is that the Myanmar section of the new China-Myanmar corridor is still road transport. After the railway is opened to traffic, the efficiency will be greatly improved. By then, Chengdu will have the European Express on the left and the Myanmar-Sintong on the right. You can imagine how arrogant it is! Editor/He Yuting
