On August 31, 2021, the entire line of the China-Laos Railway’s external power supply project was completed, meeting the conditions for commissioning and power transmission, laying a solid foundation for the full line to be put into operation before the end of 2021.
According to reports, the overall line of the China-Laos railway external power supply project is 936.8 kilometers, and the iron tower is 2220 base, divided into China section and Laos section. The China section of the power supply project builds 3 220 kV switch stations and 35 220 kV lines with a total length of 679.8 kilometers, providing reliable power for 14 traction substations; the Laos section power supply project has a total of 20 new 115 kV lines with a total length 257 kilometers, 11 115 kV substation intervals will be expanded, and 10 electrified railway traction substations will be connected to the Lao National Grid. The construction of the China-Laos Railway’s external power supply project started in December 2019. At its peak, nearly 6,000 people were invested.
It is understood that the external power supply project along the China-Laos Railway is a place with dense forests and relatively sound environmental protection. During the construction of the project, China Southern Power Grid adopted a variety of technical methods to reduce the damage to the ecological environment caused by the construction of the project. Yan Tao, general manager of the Infrastructure Department of Yunnan Power Grid Corporation, said: “To do the project here, the concept of'green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains' must be applied to all aspects of the construction of external power supply projects of the China-Laos railway. Regardless of domestic and foreign, we uphold the same The highest environmental protection standards, starting from planning, reduce land occupation and protect the local ecological environment through technologies and other means."

The China-Laos Railway extends from Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province in the north to Vientiane, the capital of Laos, in the south. After the completion of the China-Laos Railway, it will only take more than 3 hours from Kunming City in Yunnan Province to Jinghong City in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, and it is expected that direct transportation to Vientiane, Laos, will be achieved on the same day.
