Vietnam has set a target of reaching 30 GW to 50 GW of offshore wind power installed capacity by 2030 and 21 GW by 2045. Establish an offshore wind power procurement mechanism, stimulate the market, and overcome the lack of supervision and technical standards in terms of offshore wind power production, installation, operation, and maintenance.
According to the Vietnam Association of Science and Technology Association (VUSTA) webinar, it will develop an offshore wind power plant that can "produce sustainable benefits". Pan Chunyong, chairman of VUSTA, said that offshore wind power development will help create new jobs, attract investment and reduce carbon emissions.
In February, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) of Vietnam issued the National Power Development Plan (PDPVIII). It includes plans to increase wind energy production from 600MW in 2020 to more than 11GW-12GW in 2030, and solar power generation will increase to 19GW-20GW in 2030. The plan includes 35 potential offshore wind power projects. According to reports, from now to 2045, the country will need US$320.6 billion in investment to develop its power grid.

Nick Wang of Pinsent Masons, the law firm behind Out-Law, said: “Vietnam has great potential for offshore wind power. A long coastline, good wind resources and shallow offshore waters all contribute to making Vietnam the best in Southeast Asia. Offshore wind power countries. However, the regulatory environment is still changing, and before we may see resources being developed, further procedures may be needed, especially in the regulatory framework and power purchase agreement (PPA) terms and external risks of the project To reach its full potential in terms of management."Editor/Baohongying
