The great and complex task of ensuring a sustainable future for mankind is at the core of today’s climate movement. Therefore, it makes sense that we put so much energy into inventing radical new technologies and achieving difficult and ambitious goals.

However, in the voice of innovation, more business development, many of which have direct benefits to our planet, may not always get the publicity they deserve. It should be noted that lead gasoline. The world has recently experienced a milestone in the history of modern energy. Algeria was the last country to use lead gasoline and it ran out of supplies. The United Nations celebrated the news, praising it as the end of "disastrous environmental and public health" substances.

Lead is an additive that was used in most fuels sold in the 20th century, and it pollutes severely. Its particles are also highly toxic. As early as 1922, scientists warned of its fatal effects. By 1974, the United States was phasing out lead fuel. The United Nations estimates that its demise will help prevent more than one million premature deaths each year. As we all know, inhaling leaded fuels can also have some serious effects on mental health, including an increase in the incidence of violent behavior and emotional disorders, and a decrease in children’s IQ development.

In the Middle East, the benefits of bidding farewell to lead fuel will be felt disproportionately. In the past few years, the Mena region has been the first to be affected by this public health problem. Iraq, Yemen and Algeria were the last regions to stop using this substance. Therefore, the basis for this week’s good news is not the cutting-edge development of new sustainable fuel sources, nor the moment when we stop using gasoline altogether. Rather, this is the result of a simple adjustment. This seems to be a more nuanced process, but it greatly advances our mission to protect the planet, saving millions of dollars in the process.

Small adjustments such as these are an important part of controlling climate change. There are 8,000 gas stations in the UK starting to sell more environmentally friendly "E10" gasoline, and the government claims that as the UK waits for a wider transition to electric vehicles, the gas station will reduce carbon dioxide emissions. In the UAE, the Abu Dhabi Ministry of Energy announced that it will begin issuing clean energy certificates as part of a strategy to gradually and sustainably decarbonize the energy sector.

The date of Cop26, the world leaders' meeting in Glasgow, is fast approaching. The main focus of the meeting will be to reaffirm the commitments made in the 2015 "Legal Binding Paris Agreement", which promises to achieve the ultimate goal of a zero-carbon future by 2050.Editor/XuNing
