On September 1, 2021, as the first container slowly rises and is steadily loaded into the designated location of the first berthing vessel "COSCO SHIPPING Alps", this marks the smooth operation of SIPG’s new port in Israel’s Haifa Port. This has also become the first port that SIPG has invested and constructed overseas and has the right to operate.

Build a benchmark port along the Belt and Road

Issac Blumenthal, Chief Executive Officer of Israel’s National Port Corporation, said: “We have high hopes for the international SIPG to operate the port. SIPG is able to enable Haifa to operate with its advanced technology and extensive experience. The New Port of Haifa is located in Haifa on the southeastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, facing the port of Piraeus in Greece across the sea. It is an important port city. Haifa Port is the transportation and industrial center in northern Israel and a railway hub along the Mediterranean Sea. It occupies an important position in the international shipping landscape and is also an important node port along the Belt and Road. Six years ago, SIPG responded to the Belt and Road Initiative. After fierce bidding, it stood out from many international competitors and obtained the right to operate the Haifa New Port Terminal. In 2018, it launched the port construction project. The project is planned to be constructed in two phases, and the current phase one has been completed. The shoreline length of the first phase terminal is 805.5 meters, and the annual design throughput is 1.06 million TEU; the second phase terminal shoreline length is 715.7 meters, and the annual design throughput is 800,000 TEU.

Fang Huaijin, vice president of SIPG, said: “Its throughput will start up to a threshold and there will be a 700-meter shoreline. Our management level, I tell everyone, is more than that. Now we can achieve 1 million or 1.5 million (standard containers) at 800 meters."

The terminal is another new terminal in Israel in 60 years. It is also the most advanced, greenest, fastest and most cost-effective terminal on the Mediterranean coast so far. It adopts the world’s most advanced port technology and is characterized by automation, operational efficiency, energy conservation and environmental protection , Customer service and other aspects, will bring improvements to Haifa Port, and even the entire Israeli port industry. Fang Huaijin, vice president of SIPG, said: "Its control system, its automation equipment and Yangshan Phase IV are completely in the same line."

At the same time, Haifa New Port will serve as the hub port of the Mediterranean and the bridgehead of Shanghai Port to Europe, connecting to form a closer logistics network, which will not only provide an important trade channel for China’s export to the European market, but also greatly shorten the transportation time and promote the Belt and Road Initiative. Construction.
