On September 1, 2021, the celebration ceremony for the commercial operation of Pakistan's Madhiyari-Lahore ±660KV DC transmission and transformation project undertaken by the State Grid of China was held at the National Hydropower Administration of Pakistan. Zhang Lei, CEO of Murrah Transmission Line Company, and Azaz Ahmed, Managing Director of Pakistan National Transmission and Distribution Company, attended the ceremony.

Azaz said that after the operation of the project, the bottleneck of Pakistan's power transmission will be effectively broken, and the demand for electricity in the region will be guaranteed, and the possibility of power outages and grid failures will be greatly reduced.

The Murrah project is the first power transmission and transformation project in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and it is also the first and largest high-voltage direct current transmission channel for power transmission from South to North in Pakistan. The starting point of the project line is the Murtyari Converter Station, about 10 kilometers northeast of Murtyari, and the end point is the Lahore Converter Station, about 40 kilometers southwest of Lahore. The aviation straight line is 878 kilometers, and the project is put into operation. About 35 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity will be delivered in the next year. The project started in December 2018, and the project will be completed in October 2020, which can meet the electricity needs of about 10 million households in Lahore and northern Pakistan. On the day of the first shipment, the transmission, distribution, and dispatching links performed well.
