On September 6, 2021, Jiandao reporter learned from the Ministry of Water Resources that due to rainfall, the inflow of the Yangtze River Three Gorges Reservoir increased to 54,000 cubic meters per second at 14:00 on the 6th. This is the first time that the Yangtze River has exceeded 50,000 cubic meters in 2021. Floods of the order of magnitude per second. According to the "Regulations on Flood Numbering of Major Rivers in the Country" by the Ministry of Water Resources, the number is "Yangtze River No. 1 Flood in 2021".

At present, the Ministry of Water Resources maintains the fourth-level emergency response for flood and drought disaster prevention, strengthens flood control and dispatch of key water projects in the Yangtze River basin such as the Three Gorges, guides strong rainfall areas to prevent floods from mountain floods and small and medium-sized rivers, and strengthens the safety of small and medium-sized reservoirs, especially dangerous reservoirs. During the flood season, we will make every effort to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property.

It is understood that the Minjiang, Tuojiang, and Jialing Rivers, tributaries of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, have experienced major floods. Among them, the Qujiang tributaries of the Jialing River have experienced over-warning floods. It is about to show its peak. Compared with 2020, the Three Gorges Project has successfully dealt with a flood process with a maximum flood peak of 75,000 cubic meters per second, which exceeded the 1998 flood peak of 63,300 cubic meters per second. The Three Gorges Dam has a total of about 160 million cubic meters of concrete poured as a whole. It is the world's largest concrete gravity dam. The design, raw materials, and construction are all in accordance with the most stringent standards. Since water storage, the compressive capacity of the concrete far exceeds the design standards and the dam body is strong.

According to the Hydrological Bureau of the Yangtze River Committee, except for the orange flood warning of the Qujiang River and the blue warning of the flood in the Three Gorges Reservoir area, the flood warning levels of the Xiantao section of the lower Han River and the middle and lower reaches of the Hanjiang River below Xiangyang remain unchanged. It is estimated that at night, the Three Gorges Reservoir will have a flood peak of about 55,000 cubic meters per second, and there will be no obvious impact on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
