The reporter has recently learned from the industry that in order to send new energy power from the remote western energy base to the east, where energy demand is greater, the construction of power transmission channels is speeding up.
The long-term Baihetan-Zhejiang UHV DC transmission project was recently approved by the National Development and Reform Commission and construction started, becoming the first UHV line approved since 2021.
The 2140.2-kilometer Baihetan-Zhejiang UHV DC Project is connected to the Baihetan Right Bank Power Station, the second largest hydropower station in the world, at one end, and to the Zhejiang Load Center at the other end, passing through five provinces and cities including Sichuan, Chongqing, Hubei, Anhui and Zhejiang. The planned investment for the project is about 29.3 billion yuan. The latest news shows that the Anhui section of the project has recently started construction in Xiafuqiao Town, Huoshan County, Lu'an City.
The person in charge of the relevant equipment company told reporters that another Baihetan-Jiangsu UHV DC project, which started from the Baihetan Hydropower Station, is also under construction and has achieved breakthroughs in key equipment links. The end of the project, Yucheng Converter Station, entered the construction phase of the main structure at the end of August.
At the same time, as the first UHV transmission project in Jiangxi Province during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the Nanchang-Changsha UHV AC project has recently completed more than half of the main core electrical equipment installation process. According to the plan, the project will be completed and put into operation by the end of 2021. The northern Shaanxi-Hubei UHV DC transmission project (Shanxi section) was completed in mid-August.
Lin Boqiang, dean of the China Energy Policy Research Institute at Xiamen University, believes that China's renewable energy resources are unevenly distributed, and resource endowments and power consumption are inversely distributed. The two main reasons for the abandonment of wind and solar power in the northwest region are the insufficient peak shaving capacity of the power grid and the limited long-distance transmission capacity. In view of the problem of long-distance power transmission, UHV grid construction should be planned to break the barriers of inter-provincial power transmission and achieve cross-province and cross-regional power transmission. After the relevant UHV lines are put into operation, it is expected that the eastern region will reduce coal consumption for power generation and significantly reduce emissions, which is of great significance to improving the energy structure and boosting the realization of the "dual carbon" goal.
In September 2018, the National Energy Administration issued the "Notice on Accelerating the Planning and Construction of a Batch of Key Transmission and Transformation Projects", which clearly planned 12 UHV lines, and the Baihetan-Zhejiang UHV DC Project was the tenth one. Approved line. At present, there are two remaining lines, including Zhumadian-Wuhan UHV AC Project and Nanchang-Wuhan UHV AC Project, which have not been approved. The overall approval speed is lower than expected in the relevant notice.
As the most important investor in the UHV transmission channel, the State Grid Corporation of China recently revealed that it will accelerate the work related to approved lines and strive to obtain approval within the year.
The State Grid also revealed that during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the new inter-regional transmission channel of the State Grid will mainly transmit clean energy, and plans to build 7 UHV DCs, with an additional transmission capacity of 56 million kilowatts.
