Gazprom announced that it has fully completed the construction of the 9.5 billion Euro Nord Stream2 natural gas pipeline, which aims to transport Russian natural gas to the European Union through the Baltic Sea. The pipeline holding company Nord Stream 2 will now carry out the necessary pre-commissioning activities, with the goal of putting the pipeline into operation by the end of the year. It is owned by Gazprom international projects, a subsidiary of Gazprom.

The project includes a dual pipeline from Russia to Germany, with a total length of nearly 1,230 kilometers. The offshore part of the second line has been mechanically completed, and the first phase of the Baltic Sea Pipeline has been completed in June 2021.

The underwater export pipeline project is mainly laid in parallel with the existing Beixi system. Its construction started in 2018. The pipeline passes through the waters of Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany. Gazprom completed the above-mentioned water connection of the second Nord Stream 2 string by connecting the part of the pipeline from the German coast and the Danish waters.

The Fortuna pipe-laying barge lifts the opposing pipe strings from the seabed, and cuts and assembles the pipe ends. The welding work to connect the two pipelines was carried out on a platform located above the water surface on the side of the Fortuna ship. Subsequently, the connected pipeline was lowered as a continuous rope to the seabed of German waters.
