Larsen&Toubro (L&T) announced that the renewable energy division of its power transmission and distribution business has been approved to start the construction of a 300MW Jeddah solar photovoltaic power plant in Saudi Arabia. A turnkey EPC order has been received from the consortium of Masdar, EDF Renewables and Nesma.
The project was awarded the consortium’s design, financing, construction and operation model by the Saudi Arabia’s Renewable Energy Project Development Office (REPDO). After the power purchase agreement (PPA) was signed, the project has now achieved financial closure, thus notifying Larsen&Toubro to continue construction . The project is located in the Third Industrial City of Jeddah, 50 kilometers southeast of Jeddah. According to the developer, this large utility-scale power plant utilizes the most advanced technologies, including bifacial modules, single-axis trackers, string inverters, and robots for component cleaning.
Commenting on this development, T. Madhava Das, a full-time director and senior executive vice president (Utilities) of L&T, said: "We are grateful and pleased to be part of a major solar project awarded under Saudi Arabia’s pioneering national renewable energy umbrella. The Energy Program (NREP) marks another milestone on our green technology road to achieve a clean energy transition."
This is the second major announcement made by L&T Kingdom. The company recently announced that it has been used by ACWA Power and Hydropower Holdings (Public Saudi Arabia Investment Fund (PIF)) for the Sudair solar photovoltaic project, which has a planned capacity of 1.5 gigabytes. watt.
