Ocean Winds will invest billions of pounds in Scotland's 6GW offshore wind power

Spain-based Ocean Winds and Norway-based Aker Offshore Wind have submitted a joint bid valued at 6GW for the development of floating offshore wind power projects in the ScotWind lease round.

As part of the ScotWind process, the joint venture has submitted bids for several offshore wind farm sites at Outer Moray Firth, and the process will accept applications by July 16, 2021. The two companies stated that their partnership will create thousands of jobs and provide “a huge boost to Scotland’s supply chain and economy through exportable technological innovation.” These companies will use a steel semi-submersible called Windfloat. Floater, the technology was developed by Principle Power Inc., a floating wind expert in the United States, in which Aker Offshore and Ocean Winds have a majority stake.

The project aims to enable Scottish companies to produce in advance, and promises to achieve a minimum supply chain content of 40% in Scotland and a minimum supply chain content of 60% in the UK. Mapping and participation have led to agreements with suppliers to achieve early investment priorities. These proposals will be outlined at the Aberdeen Floating Offshore Wind Power Conference 2021, which will be initiated by RenewableUK and Scottish Renewable Energy Corporation on September 15, 2021.
