On September 11, 2021, the first precast I-beam of the longest high-pier railway bridge of China Civil Engineering UAE Railway Phase II Project D was successfully erected, marking that the D standard project has officially entered the peak stage of bridge superstructure construction.
The I beam rises slowly along the high pier
This extra-large bridge is located in Fujairah. The length of the bridge is 600 meters, the highest pier is 40 meters, and there are 15 spans. Each span is composed of 7 to 40 meters precast I beams. It is the highest precast I beam railway bridge with D standard pier. Up to now, all 108 pile foundations and 16 caps of the entire bridge have been poured, and the pier column structure has been completed 75%.
Different from the previous I beam erection, this erection faces a huge problem of manual aerial work. The average pier height of the whole bridge is 36 meters, and the highest pier is 40 meters. It is undoubtedly the most difficult problem to ensure that people reach the top of the pier safely without using scaffolding channels. After many times of communication with the owner and coordination of internal resources, the D standard project department finally adopted the method of tower crane and mobile crane with a hanging basket to construct the installation channel for the operators.

In order to ensure the effective connection of each process of transporting beams, lifting beams, lifting beams, and erecting beams, before the erection of the I beams, the project department planned in advance and carried out a series of quality, safety, and technical clarifications. During the erection process, all management personnel in the project department have a clear division of labor, organization and coordination, site cleaning, and equipment command are in an orderly manner. The close cooperation of on-site operators provides a reliable guarantee for the efficient and orderly advancement of beam erection work.
Due to the high pier, the prefabricated I beam was erected with a 1,200-ton super-heavy crane with a boom of 90 meters. After two hours, the first I beam was successfully erected in the night like water, and the supporting work was also completed.
