On September 16, 2021, with the authorization of the Brazilian National Energy Management Agency ANEEL, the first phase of the Aso Natural Gas Complex (GNA) project passed various assessments and tests and officially began commercial operation. The successful commercial operation of the GNA project marked that SPIC responded to the One Belt One Road initiative and implemented the "2035 First-Class Strategy" to bear fruit. So far, SPIC’s installed capacity of controllable power generation in Brazil has reached 2.21 million kilowatts, forming a pattern of simultaneous development of hydropower, gas power and wind power. The asset portfolio is more reasonable and the ability to resist risks has been further enhanced.

GNA project

Located in Port Asu, Rio State, Brazil, it includes gas-fired power plants and supporting liquefied natural gas receiving stations, floating natural gas storage and regasification equipment ships, gas transmission pipelines, etc. The planned total installed power capacity is 6.4 million kilowatts, which will be constructed in four phases. The project was jointly developed by SPIC, Germany's Siemens Energy, British Petroleum, and Brazil's Prumo, which is controlled by EIG. SPIC holds 33% of the shares and is the second largest shareholder.

The first phase of the GNA project has an installed capacity of 1.338 million kilowatts, which can meet the electricity needs of 6 million local households. The total investment is US$1 billion. During the construction period, it has provided more than 12,000 jobs for the local area, which greatly promotes local economic and social development. The planned installed capacity of the second phase of the GNA project is 1.681 million kilowatts. Construction will begin in November 2021. After completion, it will form the largest gas-fired power station in Latin America with the first phase of the project, which can provide 14 million local households with sufficient clean electricity . As a stable and dispatchable power source, the GNA project is of great significance for Brazil to solve the seasonal and intermittent problems encountered in the large-scale development of renewable energy, promote energy transformation, stabilize the central load, and achieve clean power development. GNA CEO Bernardo Pesec said: "The commissioning of the first phase of the GNA project will bring clean and reliable electricity to Brazil's National Grid, and will effectively promote Brazil's energy transition by promoting the application of LNG."

During the BRICS Summit in November 2019, under the witness of President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Bolsonaro, it was announced that SPIC, Siemens Energy, and EIG had signed an agreement of intent. SPIC actively implements the results of the summit and the consensus on clean energy development between China and Pakistan, and actively promotes GNA project cooperation based on the principles of extensive consultation, joint construction, and sharing. It signed a cooperation agreement with its partners in August 2020, and January 2021 Completed the equity delivery, and has successfully realized the commercial operation of the first phase of the project so far. Through the GNA project, SPIC has in-depth cooperation with world-class energy giants to establish a cooperative relationship of mutual trust, mutual benefit, and mutual benefit. Demonstration of good cooperation.
