The Russian energy storage company Renera has signed an agreement with the Kaliningrad region government to build a manufacturing facility for the production of energy storage systems and lithium-ion batteries in the western region of Russia.

The production plant is called the "Russian Gigabit Factory" and will be put into operation at the Baltic Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) base in 2026, and its construction will also promote the development of the NPP website. Enertech International, a South Korean lithium-ion battery manufacturer, owned 49% by Renera, will become the technology partner of the project.

Reneira is Rosatom’s integrated energy storage company and a subsidiary of TVEL Fuel Company. Natalia Nikipelova, President of TVEL Fuel Company, said: The construction of a large-scale facility for the production of energy storage devices is an important milestone in our strategy to develop a new non-nuclear business, and it is also an important milestone for the development of government power transportation. Concept and looking forward to an important milestone in 2030. The production of the factory should be mainly consumed by domestic automakers, therefore, the company will make a significant contribution to the implementation of the national import substitution policy.

Anton Alikhanov, Governor of the Kaliningrad Oblast, said: "The implementation of this project can promote the socio-economic development of remote areas in our region. The initial need for the new factory is estimated to be 2,000 people, which means the population and housing of our eastern cities. Construction and new infrastructure are expected to grow substantially. Once the plant is fully operational, it will produce at least 3GWh per year in terms of the total energy used to produce batteries.
