On September 16, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdullahian in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Wang Yi said that after the establishment of the new Iranian government, China-Iran relations have maintained a positive momentum of development, with frequent communication at all levels, demonstrating the China-Iran comprehensive strategic partnership at a high level.

China firmly supports Iran in opposing hegemony and safeguarding Iran’s sovereignty, dignity and legitimate interests. China is willing to work with Iran to implement comprehensive cooperation plans and advance cooperation in areas such as the Belt and Road Initiative and energy resources.

China will continue to assist Iran in fighting COVID-19. China supports Iran to become a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Iran in regional and international affairs, and jointly lead the negotiations on the joint comprehensive action plan on the Iranian nuclear issue to reach a consensus in the right direction at an early date. The two sides will also jointly promote Afghanistan to build an inclusive political pattern, live in harmony with neighboring countries, and take concrete actions to combat terrorism in all forms.

Hussein Amir Abdullahian said that Iran-China relations are of strategic significance and have a solid foundation. The new Iranian government is willing to work with China to further implement the comprehensive Iran-China cooperation plan and accelerate bilateral cooperation in the fields of transportation, energy, culture, science and technology, and tourism.

Iran is grateful to China for the tremendous help Iran has provided in fighting the epidemic, and is willing to strengthen vaccine cooperation with China. The new Iranian government attaches importance to neighboring countries and Asia. Thanks to China for its support of joining the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as a full member, and is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with China on the Iranian nuclear issue and the Afghan issue.
