Mongolia is formulating a five-year project plan to provide sustainable road and transportation services to the capital, Ulaanbaatar. This project is very important because the city is notorious for its high levels of air pollution, most of which come from traffic emissions.

Most of the funding for the project will be provided through loans of approximately US$100 million. The estimated total cost of this work is $115 million. This is currently one of many highway projects in Mongolia.

Reducing congestion and improving traffic flow will be one of the goals of the project. Roads in Bayankhoshuu and Unur Khoroolol will be widened to extend them to two lanes in both directions. Some sections of Narny Zam Road will have up to 3 lanes in either direction.
