An Indian company is planning a joint venture with a Saudi Arabian group to manufacture specialty chemicals in Saudi Arabia. Dorf Ketal Chemical Company will cooperate with Dammam-based TriBonds Chemical Company to meet the requirements of the downstream sectors of the energy value chain, including "fuel additives, plastics, lubricants, oilfield chemicals, catalysts and adsorbents."

Prior to this, Saudi Arabia, the world's largest oil exporter, has become increasingly interested in the chemical industry. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia merged its largest petrochemical company Sabic with the world's largest oil export company Saudi Aramco in 2019, seeking to diversify into specialty chemicals. "The new joint venture brings proven patented innovations and technologies to the region, including water and process applications: in addition to decades of global experience and expertise." Abdul Aziz, Chairman of TriBonds Chemical Company · Kahtani said when talking about the agreement with the Indian company.

As part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 strategy, the company will use local raw materials to create opportunities in Saudi Arabia. This week, Sabic started trial operation and is preparing to start a joint venture project with ExxonMobil, the U.S. Gulf Coast energy giant. The Riyadh-based company stated in a document submitted to the Tadawal Stock Exchange on September 21, 2021 that the project was agreed in 2019.

Sabic said that this includes the establishment of an ethylene production plant with an annual capacity of approximately 1.8 million tons to provide raw materials for two polyethylene plants and a monoethylene glycol plant. Separately, on Tuesday, Sepem and Saudi Aramco signed a preliminary agreement to explore the possibility of establishing a new entity in Saudi Arabia to carry out engineering and construction activities in the energy and infrastructure industries. Sepem said in a statement: The agreement requires cooperation with local entities and public investment funds to establish an EPC national champion capable of implementing the Kingdom’s full range of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) project activities and maximizing the use of local resource.
