  • The report requires the EU to reformulate its engagement strategy with China

With the rise of China and an important position on the world stage, the West has begun to be cautious in its relations with China from a different perspective. According to the website of the Chinese Mission to the European Union, on September 15, the European Parliament voted to pass the "New Europe-China Strategy Report." In this regard, the Chinese mission to the European Union stated that on the one hand, the report calls China a "partner in cooperation and negotiation" and on the other hand highlights that China and Europe are "institutional opponents." This is not conducive to improving and developing China-EU relations. China hopes that the European side will listen carefully to rational voices, view China's development and progress in a comprehensive and objective manner, and do more things that are beneficial to the development of China-EU relations.

The Chinese mission to the EU stated that on the one hand, the report considered China to be the EU’s “partner in cooperation and negotiation”, on the other hand it greatly exaggerated the differences in ideology and values, and highlighted that China and the EU are “institutional opponents”. This statement is not conducive to improving peace. China cannot agree with the development of China-EU relations.

The Chinese mission to the European Union also claimed that, in particular, the report made false comments on China’s political, economic, social, and foreign policies, based on prejudices and lies, pointed out issues related to Hong Kong, Xinjiang, and Taiwan, and grossly interfered in China’s internal affairs and violated international relations. China firmly opposes the basic norms and European commitments on related issues.

The diplomatic mission to the EU stated that the experience of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU over the past 40 years has shown that the common interests of both sides far outweigh their differences, and differences in political systems and development paths have not and should not become obstacles to cooperation. The key to stable and long-term China-EU relations is to uphold mutual respect, dialogue and cooperation. In the current complex situation where global challenges are intertwined and rising, China-EU relations in particular should not be kidnapped by ideology and geopolitics. Conflict and confrontation are harmful to both parties and the whole world.

With the deepening of economic globalization today, the relationship between major powers is no longer a simple cooperation or confrontation. The mission to the European Union also noted that some parliamentarians emphasized that China is a strategic partner of the European Union. The mutually beneficial relationship between China and the EU is of strategic significance to both parties and global stability. They called on the EU to focus on cooperation, properly handle differences, and jointly shoulder the response with China. Responsibility for global issues such as the epidemic and the promotion of post-epidemic recovery. It is hoped that the European side will listen carefully to these rational voices, view China's development and progress in a comprehensive and objective manner, and do more things that are beneficial to the development of China-EU relations.
