On September 26, 2021, the 11th Bureau of Hydropower, on behalf of PowerConstruction International, formally signed a contract with the Zambian Rufubu Electric Power Company for the Zambia Rufubu Hydropower Project.
The project is located in the Mupu keel and Nsama areas in northeastern Zambia, about 60 kilometers downstream from Mpujokoso along the Rufobu River. The total installed capacity of the project is 326 MW. It is planned to be developed in two phases, 163 MW in the first phase and 163 MW in the second phase. The contracted project is the first phase of 163 MW. The main construction content includes the construction of three power stations, dams and other related facilities, the construction of 132 kV transmission lines connecting the three power stations, and the construction of 63 kilometers of 330 kV transmission lines.
After the completion of the project, it will greatly improve the uneven distribution of power supply and demand in Zambia, provide stable power guarantee for northern Zambia, especially the mining power consumption area, and will also provide more employment opportunities for the local area and promote the local economy. develop.
