The maiden return journey of Ever Ace, one of the world's largest container ships, arrived in Colombo late at night on October 5 and docked at the Colombo International Container Terminal (CICT) jointly operated by China and Sri Lanka. "Changfan" is 400 meters long, 61.5 meters wide, and has a draft of 16 meters. It is a 24,000 TEU container ship. After CICT successfully unloaded 1,600 containers, it left the port late at night on the 6th to continue its voyage.

CICT is the first and only deep-water container terminal in South Asia, with a coastline of 1,200 meters, a frontal water depth of 18 meters, and an annual design throughput of 2.4 million TEUs. The terminal has 4 professional container berths, equipped with 14 world's most advanced container quay cranes and 46 yard tire gantry cranes, capable of operating the world's largest container ship. The Sri Lanka Port Authority stated on the 6th that currently there are only 24 terminals in the world capable of handling such ultra-large container ships, and CICT is fortunate to be one of them. CICT is a joint venture company formed by China Merchants Port Holdings Co., Ltd. and the Sri Lanka Port Authority under the Sri Lankan government in 2011. The two accounted for 85% and 15%, respectively. They won 35 years of construction and operation of the Colombo container terminal. BOT (investment, construction, operation) contract. Since its operation on July 1, 2013, CICT has greatly contributed to the continuous rapid growth of the port volume of Colombo Port, improved the status of Colombo Port in the world port and shipping industry, and promoted the global ranking of Colombo Port from 34th in 2012. To the 22nd place in 2020. At present, CICT has about 1,600 Chinese and foreign employees, of which 98% are local employees. Since the outbreak of the new crown epidemic, the terminal has worked hard to overcome difficulties such as insufficient staff attendance to ensure smooth and orderly operations. With the joint efforts of the Chinese and Sri Lankan employees, the operational efficiency and service level of the CICT terminal has been steadily improved, attracting high-quality routes and ultra-large container ships to call, and continuously helping the Port of Colombo to enhance its position in the world shipping industry.
