The Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Supply has asked the transmission system operator Energinet to check whether the planned Bornholm Energy Island can provide 3GW of offshore wind power instead of the currently planned 2GW.
An order from the Ministry required Energinet to expand the latter’s current feasibility study on the island. The ministerial order only provides an opportunity to study these areas, and new political decisions are needed to use the expanded areas to build offshore wind power. The order also includes a feasibility study for the cable connection between the energy island and the offshore wind farm, the export of cables to New Zealand, and the feasibility study of international connections with neighboring countries.
TSO said that if this is not possible, the waters near Bornholm may be a relevant alternative to the Hesselo offshore wind farm. Keywords: international engineering news, foreign engineering project information
The Hesselo tender is currently on hold because the feasibility study found that the seabed area with soft bottom may indicate that the conditions in the fine screening of the area are not as favorable as initially assumed.Editor/Baohongying
