On October 15, 2021, Gansu will hold a new energy project in Wuwei, Zhangye, Qingyang and other places to hold ceremonies to start the construction of new energy projects. According to reports, on the basis of the 8.55 million kilowatts of centralized construction determined by the state, the new energy projects in the five cities of Jiuquan, Jinchang, Zhangye, Wuwei, and Jiayuguan that have the starting conditions will be included in the scope of centralized construction. The scale reaches 12.85 million kilowatts.

According to Kang Jun, director of the Gansu Provincial Development and Reform Commission, said at the construction site that the 12.85 million kilowatts of new energy projects started this time will not only rely on deserts, Gobi, and desert areas to promote the construction of large-scale wind power photovoltaic bases, but also reflect ecological and environmental benefits, energy saving and emission reduction benefits, and economy. Benefits, etc., and highlight the diversified characteristics of "photovoltaic + sand control", "photothermal + wind photovoltaic", as well as the local consumption of new energy, relying on UHV DC transmission line supporting projects, and independent arrangement of power generation projects. After the completion of these "photovoltaic + sand control" projects, the area of desert control will reach about 75,000 mu, and the ecological environment of the Hexi Corridor will continue to be improved.

Wind and light in the Hexi Corridor

Gansu is rich in wind and light resources. The Hexi area represented by Jiuquan has a vast area and flat terrain. It is one of the regions with the best basic conditions for the development of new energy in the country.

According to the resource assessment results of the China Meteorological Administration in 2020, the country’s 100-meter-high wind power density of 150 watts per square meter above wind energy technology development of 9.9 billion kilowatts, Gansu reached 560 million kilowatts, ranking fourth in the country; with the popularization of low-speed wind turbines, The development of wind resources will be further increased. The national photovoltaic power generation technology development volume is 128.7 billion kilowatts, and Gansu reaches 9.5 billion kilowatts, ranking fifth in the country. There is huge space for development and utilization, and it has the conditions for base, large-scale, and integrated development.

Gansu focuses on the development and deployment of new energy in the Hexi region, and has built the country's first 10-million-kilowatt-level Jiuquan wind power base, and a number of million-kilowatt-level photovoltaic power generation bases such as Jinchang have been connected to the grid. In addition to the Hexi area, new energy in the Hedong area has also been effectively developed. The Dingxi Tongwei 2 million kilowatt wind power base is accelerating and is expected to be completed and connected to the grid by the end of the year; Qingyang, Baiyin and other new energy sources will be used as supporting facilities for the "Long Power into Shandong" project The power supply has been developed on a large scale and on a base.

Wu Jingkai, deputy general manager of China Huadian Group Co., Ltd., said that China Huadian’s installed capacity of new energy in Gansu exceeds 2.2 million kilowatts, and the effective control of desert Gobi area has exceeded 10.86 million square meters. During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the company will comprehensively accelerate the development of wind power, planning to increase the installed capacity of more than 75 million kilowatts, of which more than 7 million kilowatts will be added in Gansu.

Since 2021, Gansu has closely followed the “dual-carbon” goals and progress, accelerated the construction of clean energy bases in the Hexi Corridor, optimized the layout of wind photovoltaic development, promoted the construction of large-scale wind power bases, continued to expand the scale of photovoltaic power generation, and vigorously promoted the integration of wind, solar, and water storage to achieve High-quality development of new energy.

From January to September 2021, Gansu added 1.5318 million kilowatts of new energy grid-connected installed capacity, and the total installed capacity of new energy reached 25.22 million kilowatts, accounting for 43.6% of the total installed capacity of Gansu Province; power generation reached 33.274 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 11.64 year-on-year %; The utilization rate of wind photovoltaic equipment reached 97.08%, an increase of 1.93% year-on-year; Gansu Province sent 40.613 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, of which the new energy delivered electricity exceeded 13.7 billion kilowatt-hours, accounting for about 33.74% of the total external delivery.
