UK-based chemical manufacturer Ineos announced that it will invest more than 2 billion euros in electrolysis projects to produce carbon-free green hydrogen throughout Europe. Ineos' subsidiary Inovyn is already a large electrolysis operator in Europe, specializing in hydrogen storage and processing.

In November 2020, as part of its subsidiary Inovyn, the company launched a new business to develop and build green hydrogen energy throughout Europe. Inovyn Hydrogen Business Manager Wouter Bleukx said: "Hydrogen is an important part of a climate-neutral economy and has been discussed for decades. As hydrogen can be used for zero-carbon transportation and many applications in households and industries, Ineos is in a unique position. , Can support new opportunities driven by the emerging demand for affordable zero-carbon energy."

Geir Tuft, CEO of Inovyn, said: “Driven by the emerging demand for affordable low-carbon energy and our existing large-scale electrolysis operations, Ineos is in a unique position to exploit these new opportunities.” Ineos It is planned to build the first device equipped with a 20MW electrolyzer in Norway to produce clean hydrogen by electrolyzing water, powered by zero-carbon electricity.

It is said that the project can reduce about 22,000 tons of carbon dioxide each year, as well as the carbon footprint of Ineos' operations in Lavnes, and serves as the hydrogen center of the Norwegian transport sector. The company plans to build a large 100-megawatt electrolyzer at its Cologne plant in Germany to produce green hydrogen. The Cologne plant is expected to further support the decarbonization of Ineos operations and supply hydrogen for the production of green ammonia.

Ineos claims that its German hydrogen plant will reduce carbon emissions by more than 120,000 tons per year, and promote the development of electronic fuels through industrial-scale electricity to methanol applications. In addition, Ineos intends to cooperate with the governments of EU member states to purchase the necessary infrastructure for hydrogen production. Jim Ratcliffe, Chairman of Ineos, said: "Green hydrogen is one of our best opportunities to create a more sustainable and low-carbon world." “Europe urgently needs more investment in green hydrogen. Ineos’ announcement today shows that we are determined to play a leading role in this important new fuel.” In September, Ineos announced plans to invest in its Grangemouth, Scotland. The refinery has invested more than £1 billion as part of its efforts to achieve net zero emissions by 2045.Editor/Baohongying
