InfraestruturasdePortugal (IP) signed two contracts worth 126.45 million euros for the modernization of two railroad sections with a total length of 74 kilometers on Linhada Beira Alta. The Minister of State for Infrastructure of Portugal, Jorge Delgado and the President of IP António Laranjo, awarded the SacyrSomague/SacyrNeopul contract for the modernization of the San Cambadao-Manguard section, which is part of the Bella Alta line.
This 57.6 million euro project will be completed in two years and is part of the Ferrovia 2020 plan, covering the modernization and development of the Portuguese railway network. The project involves the modernization of the 40-kilometer railway section between Santa Comba Dão and Mangualde stations to provide the railway with greater operational capacity, better safety and travel conditions, which is not only conducive to freight, but also conducive to inter-regional passenger transport. The project includes the complete replacement of the track superstructure and the use of multi-purpose single sleepers. If the Spanish railway network implements the gauge in the future, its profile allows the track position change to be changed in a fast and economical way. According to the contract, the Santa Comba Dão, Oliveirinha and Nelas stations will be completely modernized, and their track layout will be changed to accommodate 750-meter trains. This change will ensure the optimization of freight operating conditions and increase the number of trains with greater carrying capacity. The Moimenta Alcafache level crossing will be demolished to improve railway and road safety conditions. Keywords: engineering construction, engineering news
