Albania, Bulgaria and North Macedonia signed a tripartite memorandum of cooperation in Sofia to advance Corridor 8. After the signing of the memorandum, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, stated that the construction of this infrastructure is vital to the development of the western region.
"Now we have launched all projects in the railway and highway fields, but there is no doubt that the new port of Durres we believe that this great project, this project that includes all three countries will be successful in the future. We and our colleagues will be successful in the future. It is agreed that the common agenda for promoting Corridor 8 as one of the most important economic development corridors is a necessary condition for the agenda of the three ministries not only for our country but also for other countries in the region. In order to complete this strategic project and bring more development to the region, the minister stated that the three parties will lobby for funds from European institutions to provide funds for the complete construction of the railway.
"We discussed the details, and we agreed on how to jointly influence European financial institutions to support our projects, especially railway projects, as one of the most effective modes of transportation based on the EU investment agenda," Baruku said after signing the memorandum . To advance the project, Baruku announced that it will hold another meeting in North Macedonia and Tirana.
