On the morning of October 14, 2021, the main project of the Baihetan Phase II converter station, which was built and managed by the State Grid UHV Construction Company, officially started. After the converter station, the sixth UHV converter station in Sichuan Province is fully under construction.
The second phase of Baihetan converter station is the sending end station of the Baihetan~Zhejiang ±800 kV UHV DC transmission project. It is located in Temuli Town, Butuo County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province. The total area of the station area is 17.80 hectares. The estimated static investment is 5.35 billion yuan, and the unit investment is 668.76 yuan/kW. The station has 1 ±800kV DC bipolar outgoing line, 1 earthing pole, and 500kV AC outgoing line 9 times, including 7 times in the current phase of construction and 2 times in the long-term plan.
It is reported that the Baihetan Phase II converter station is scheduled to be fully completed and put into operation in April 2023. At that time, the 8000MW hydropower unit of the Baihetan Right Bank Hydropower Station will use this station as a switch and pass through five parts of Sichuan, Chongqing, Hubei, Anhui, and Zhejiang. The province’s 2140.2 km UHV DC transmission line continuously sends hydropower from the lower reaches of the Jinsha River to Zhejiang. The annual power transmission is expected to exceed 36 billion degrees, which can further promote the optimal allocation of China’s hydropower resources across regions and alleviate water abandonment in Southwest China. The current situation of tight electricity supply in East China will also help China achieve its goal of "carbon peak and carbon neutrality" as scheduled. Editor/He Yuting
