The 32 solar microgrids developed in response to the 2014 Ebola crisis will provide power to 80,000 people in West Africa for the first time. The Movamba project-which will add 1.3 MW of renewable energy capacity-aims to increase system capacity and increase resilience by directly connecting to hospitals and clinics in rural Sierra Leone. As part of the agreement with the government, the developer Energicity must also provide the minimum daily electricity required by the community health center for free.

A US$1.25 million loan from the renewable energy performance platform funded by the British government will support the completion and operation of the project. This loan is REPP's first investment in a company dominated by women. "With the support of a $1.25 million REPP loan, the project not only provides a reliable source of electricity for health clinics in various regions, but once completed, it will first provide electricity to nearly 80,000 local residents and small businesses. Energicity Corporation CEO and founder Nicole Poindexter said. Since connecting to the local mini-grid, attendance has increased by 25%, and the number of students passing has increased by 235%." The UN COP26 Climate Summit to be held in Glasgow, Scotland next month will be the focus of international financing for clean energy and climate change resilience. Developed countries pledged in 2009 to provide developing countries with US$100 billion in climate financing each year by 2020. A report issued by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development in September found that developed countries raised US$79.6 billion in 2019. The World Resources Institute’s research shows that most developed countries have not made their due contribution to the realization of the US$100 billion goal. Editor/Xing Wentao
