Urban areas in England will receive nearly US$9.49 billion (£6.9 billion) in funding to modernize the local transportation network. The Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak will reveal his transportation expenditure plan in next week's budget.
As part of the grant, Greater Manchester will receive nearly US$1.47 billion (£1.07 billion) in Metrolink tram train vehicles. West Midlands will receive nearly $1.44 billion (£1.05 billion) for the expansion of the subway, including the completion of the expansion from Wednesbury to Brierley Hill.
