The 500 kV transmission project of the National Nuclear Demonstration Power Station, with a total length of 501 kilometers and a 657 base iron tower, passes through Weihai and Yantai. The projects include the National Nuclear Demonstration Power Station-Kunyu 500kV Line Project, the National Nuclear Demonstration Power Station-Laiyang 500kV Line Project, the National Nuclear Demonstration Power Station-Qixia 500kV Line Project, Kunyu 500kV Substation Interval Expansion Project, Qixia 500 kV substation interval expansion project, Laiyang 500 kV substation protection renovation project, Gwangju 500 kV substation protection renovation project.

The project has a tight schedule and heavy tasks. In order to ensure the orderly progress of the project, State Grid Shandong Construction Co., Ltd. insisted on moving the gate forward, planning in advance, and making sufficient preparations for the start and construction of the project. The first is to participate in advance, take precautions, and fully implement the work requirements of "feasibility study reaching the initial design depth and initial design reaching the depth of construction drawings". The second is to accurately sweep "mines", countersign on the construction site, and make detailed plans for power outages. The third is to accumulate a lot of money, and open it all. The fourth is to take multiple measures, innovate and create benefits, and fully support the construction of new heights of "smart infrastructure".

At present, the project has been listed as a key project of the Shandong Provincial Government in 2022. The completion of the project can meet the load development needs of Weihai, Yantai, Qingdao and other eastern regions and Shandong Province, strengthen the power supply support in the Jiaodong Peninsula, and strengthen the mutual supply of power supply in Shandong. Capacity building will also help Shandong Province alleviate its dependence on coal, improve environmental quality, and help Shandong achieve "carbon peak and carbon neutrality" as soon as possible.
