Recently, the Lanzhou-Xinjiang High Speed Rail Shandan Racecourse station undertaken by China Railway 21st Bureau completed its construction and passed the static acceptance. After it is put into operation, it will become China's first passenger station to be added to the existing high-speed rail business lines in the high-cold and high-altitude areas.

Shandan Racecourse is located in the middle of the Hexi Corridor and the northern foot of the Qilian Mountains, with a total area of 3.29 million mu. Since the Han Dynasty, Shandan Racecourse has been raising horses for the royal family. The tradition of raising horses has continued for thousands of years. It is currently the largest and oldest horse farm in the world and a unique tourism resource.

The Lan-Xin high-speed rail Shandan Racecourse station was originally a third-class overpassing station, mainly for the safe and punctual escort of the Lan-Xin high-speed railway trains passing through the 7 Qilian Mountain tunnels between Junmachang Station and Haomen Station. The passenger transport supporting project of Shandan Racecourse Station, which started construction in February 2021, has a total construction area of more than 2,000 square meters. The station building adopts the shape of "mountain", which means Qilian Mountain and Yanzhi Mountain. The station scale is 2 stations and 4 lines.

The Lanxin High-speed Railway runs 22 pairs of trains every day, from 6 am to 9 pm, passing through an EMU every half an hour or so. Building a new passenger station on the overhanging station of the existing high-speed rail line is equivalent to performing bypass surgery on the heart. This section of the embankment is a high-filled area with a narrow working surface. The construction machinery and materials are all carried by manual shoulders. After 4 nights with wind and snow and the temperature below 10 degrees Celsius, the hard isolation construction and installation were completed in one fell swoop in the early morning of April 4, which opened the working face for engineering construction.

"There are more than 70 constructions at night skylight points, and we have achieved zero delays and zero accidents each time." Project leader Wang Wenzhou said that in order to ensure the safety of construction close to existing lines, they used large and small excavators to excavate passenger passages. Digging and transporting 2000 cubic meters of muck; when connecting to the long drain channel, the concrete is transported to the opposite cement tanker with a truck-mounted pump truck, and then transported to the pump truck for pouring.

The special construction environment conditions are useless here step by step, and they adopt the stitch-in-the-seam construction operation. There are 24 steel columns on a platform, about 3 meters away from the existing line of the catenary, and the wind reaches six or seven levels. They drive piles during the day and hoist them at night. The side beams of the steel structure shelter are only 1.8 meters away from the 27,000-volt catenary. They are assembled during the day and hoisted at night.

Implement seamless monitoring and control of all operating procedures. Since entering the construction site in March 2021, the participating employees have overcome the difficulties of cold, rainy and snowy, close to the existing line, and narrow construction site, optimized the construction plan, and successfully solved a series of problems such as transporting materials across the existing line and construction near the existing line. Complete the 2000-square-meter station building, 1000-meter-long platform, 400-meter-long canopy, and 680-meter-long passenger passage safely and efficiently.

Fight for 90 days

Shandan Racecourse Station has been built as a passenger station from Yuexing Station. The engineering construction is facing many difficulties. The station building cannot be built, and the pile-slab retaining wall of the platform cannot be done. All operations are linked together. "First find a way to finish the upper process, and then find a way to finish the next process." said Liang Zhilong, the Minister of Engineering. Since entering the site, he has been working during the day and overtime at night. A rain and snow, two or three all night to get back the delayed construction period.

The project is located in a high-altitude and high-cold area with an average altitude of 3,600 meters. The temperature in spring is around minus 25 degrees Celsius. Sometimes a day will experience the four seasons, sometimes with direct sunlight, sometimes with dense clouds, sometimes with rain and snow, and sometimes with strong winds. According to barometer records, 90 days of rain and snow have been encountered since the project entered the site, of which 22 days of heavy snow in April, the lowest night temperature reached minus 25 degrees Celsius, and snow began on September 10.

"It has been rushing for work, and the effective construction period is calculated by the hour." Li Hong, secretary of the project party branch, calculated an account. The project entered the site on February 19 and received 4 side business lines to block the construction procedures on April 1. The construction of the 3 roads involved railcars traveling in the racetrack area, and the line closure time was postponed to July 5; due to geological exploration, the start date of the station well piles was delayed by 15 days, and construction was suspended for 21 days due to holidays. After the completion of various procedures, the project department increased the investment of manpower and material resources, worked overtime to catch up with the construction period to ensure that the construction period was not affected.

The geological surface of the construction area is a frozen soil layer, with the deepest depth of 1.8 meters and the lowest depth of 1.4 meters. Zhao Jianguo, a 59-year-old lead worker, has not returned home once since he played. He said that every construction move is related to the safety of the existing line. Every operation point must lead workers to the scene before the machinery can be moved. It is windy and snowy here, and the cotton coat has not been taken off, and the coat is shivering with cold. Ultraviolet rays are strong. Every employee takes off his hat and his face is black and white. Due to altitude sickness, his eyes and fingers are swollen in the morning. In this way, they completed the temporary construction of the station, the foundation of the station building, the passenger passage, the railway staff dormitory, the police station, the heat pump room and other infrastructure.

"The task is too tight. Basically, work overtime every night." From the platform to the shelter and the passenger passage, the operation team leader Li Haiping's walkie-talkie kept ringing. He said that under the influence of low temperature and high altitude, construction efficiency is severely reduced, resulting in great mobility of workers. In order to stabilize the operation team, they rented 4 buses to pick up local laborers during the main construction period, equipped with military coats, raincoats, rain boots and other supplies.

After a train of EMUs passed through Shandan Racecourse station in a fast speed, the staff involved in the construction quickly went into the post-finishing work of the station. Under the blue sky and white clouds, the peaks of the Qilian Mountains are covered with snow, and groups of yaks are grazing leisurely on the grass on both sides of the station, a vivid picture of the harmonious coexistence of man and nature.

"Do not occupy a pasture, do not cross the red line one step." Shandan Racecourse Station is located in the protection area of Qilian Mountain National Geological Park. In order to protect the green ecology, the 21st Bureau of China Railway has implemented point-line and surface-level control of the construction area, signed the guarantee responsibility system level by level, and strictly implemented the environmental protection veto system and unconditional obedience system.

In order not to infringe on the ecology of the grassland and disturb the wild animals, they specially chose to be on the deserted beach when they built the resident. In order to ensure that the materials can enter the site, they specially repair and maintain the existing access roads. Project technical director Qiu Guobiao said that vehicles transporting raw concrete, steel bars, masonry and other materials need to walk a 25-kilometer sidewalk from Minle, and vehicles that take soil need to take a 15-kilometer sidewalk to the construction site. Because of the high altitude where the project is located, the roads used by heavy vehicles loaded with materials are all hill-climbing sections, with an altitude difference of more than 600 meters.

"On the one hand, ecological protection is not to be infringed, and on the other hand, the opening construction period cannot be delayed. Both left and right are key difficulties." Wang Wenzhou said, after the rain and snow melt, the road will be turned and muddy, and it is necessary to arrange two loaders and one excavator to pull the material. The vehicles were towed and escorted to the construction site, and a cement tanker was rented to transport and rescue cement and fly ash. During the construction of the frame bridge, the only cart passage leading to the south side of the line was blocked. They rented small concrete tankers for bypass transportation. Due to the small capacity of the vehicles and the long distance, they still could not meet the construction and production needs. They also rented a truck pump to transport the concrete through the frame bridge pipeline relay to meet the construction and production requirements. They also rented two pump trucks, one of which was parked on the south side before the frame bridge was excavated and could only be used exclusively on the south side.

When 28 employees are at most, 330 laborers are led, with more blooming, cross-working, and parallel advancement. Yu Bo, director of the integrated department of the project department, said that they invited local eco-environmental protection departments to conduct on-site publicity and education on eco-environmental protection and build more than 800-meter-long protective fences at the junction of the construction area and the pasture. All production and life are all electrified to prevent open flames; classified storage and centralized treatment of production and living garbage, etc., effectively control pollution sources, and ensure the ecological protection of Shandan Horse Farm Station.

“Every time the owner inspects the project, he judges the project excellent.” Nie Yundan, a member of the Safety and Quality Department, and her husband Liang Zhilong both graduated from Lanzhou Jiaotong University. She said that during the day or night, whether it is rainy or snowy or sunny, the field leader cleans up the entire area of the work site every time before leaving get off work.
