On November 30, 2021, Sinopec’s Xinjiang Kuche Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project officially started construction. This is China’s first 10,000-ton photovoltaic hydrogen production project and the world’s largest photovoltaic green hydrogen production project under construction, including photovoltaic power generation. , Power transmission and transformation, hydrogen production by electrolysis of water, hydrogen storage, and hydrogen transmission, with an investment of nearly 3 billion yuan, and an annual output of 20,000 tons of green hydrogen after it is put into operation.

Xinjiang Kuche Green Hydrogen Demonstration Project

The project will build a new photovoltaic power station with an installed capacity of 300 MW and an average annual power generation of 618 million kilowatt-hours, an electrolyzed water hydrogen plant with an annual capacity of 20,000 tons, a hydrogen storage spherical tank with a hydrogen storage capacity of about 210,000 standard cubic meters, and hydrogen transmission. Hydrogen pipelines and supporting power transmission and transformation facilities with a capacity of 28,000 standard cubic meters per hour.

It is expected to be completed and put into production in June 2023. The green hydrogen produced will be supplied to Sinopec Tahe Refining and Chemical Company, replacing the existing natural gas for hydrogen production, and is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 485,000 tons per year.

At present, Sinopec is accelerating the establishment of a world-leading clean energy chemical company and building a "one base, two wings and three new" industrial structure. This demonstration project makes full use of Xinjiang’s resource advantages. It is a key project for Sinopec to build the No. 1 Hydrogen Energy Company.
