Recently, the National Development and Reform Commission officially approved the feasibility study report of the Huayang River flood storage and detention area construction project in Anhui, which laid a solid foundation for the full implementation and construction of the project.

The Huayang River flood storage and detention area starts from the west dike of Huangmei County in Hubei Province in the west, to the east dike of Wangjiang County in the east, hills and hills to the north, Huangguang and Tongma dikes to the south. It is the largest flood storage and detention area near the mouth of the lake. Detention of 2.5 billion cubic meters of excess flood missions. The Huayang River flood storage and detention area construction project involves the Susong, Taihu, and Wangjiang counties in Anqing City, the provincial Huayang River Farm and the Provincial Jiucheng Prison Management Branch. For a long time, the safety construction of the Huayang River flood storage and detention area has been lagging behind, which has severely restricted the local economic and social development.

The estimated total investment of the project is 11.426 billion yuan, of which Anhui 10.686 billion yuan and Hubei 740 million yuan. The main construction content includes: planning and constructing 7 safe areas including Fuyu, Fuhua, Jiucheng, Yangwan, Xuqiao, Liuzuo, Dushan, etc., with a total area of 385.76 square kilometers, a resettlement population of 661,100 people, and a total length of 137.06 kilometers of the embankment. ; Construction of Chengying flood gate, Yanglin flood gate, Huayang control gate, Yangwan control gate, reconstruction of 36 small and medium culvert gates; construction of 38 pumping stations, including 2 large pumping stations; construction of 25 transfer roads, 140.62 kilometers . The total construction period is 60 months.

The Huayang River flood storage and detention area construction project is one of the 150 major water conservancy projects identified by the State Council. It is the largest water conservancy project in Anhui Province after diversion from the Yangtze River to the Huaihe River. In the future, after the implementation of the project, it will effectively improve the overall flood control system in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, prevent standard floods and possible catastrophic floods, and realize the timely and effective and safe opening of flood storage and detention areas, which will help ensure the safety of flood control in key areas in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the regional economic and social feasibility.
