As one of the important projects of the Belt and Road Initiative, the China-Laos Railway from Kunming, China to Vientiane, Laos, will become a new logistics route for land-sea new corridors on December 4, 2021. In the morning, in Chongqing Tuanjiecun Station and Chengdu International Railway Port, which are more than 200 kilometers apart, the whistle sounded at the same time. The first trains of the two new land-sea channels of China-Laos Railway (Chengyu-Vientiane) exited the platform at the same time, marking this new logistics lin.

The two first trains carried Chongqing nuts, motorcycle parts, chemicals, and Chengdu Sinotruk’s ace light commercial trucks. They passed through Yunnan and arrived in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, about 4 days later. The new land-sea channel, officially opened for operation in September 2017, is a new international land-sea trade channel created by the cooperation of provinces, autonomous regions, and ASEAN countries in Western China. It takes Chongqing as the operating center and Chengdu as an important logistics hub, using railways, shipping, roads, etc. The mode of transportation is to reach all parts of the world via Guangxi and Yunnan to the south.

As of November 2021, the destinations of the new land-sea channel have been expanded to 311 ports in 106 countries and regions. The China-Laos Railway, which will be fully operational on December 3, 2021, has opened up a new logistics route for the new land-sea channel.

"This new route has shortened the freight time by nearly 20 days compared with traditional sea transportation, and it can reach major cities in the Indochina Peninsula such as Bangkok, Thailand by rail, rail, and rail-to-road combined transport in just one day." said Wang Yupei, chairman of the land-sea new channel operating company.

The "Fourteenth Five-Year Plan" to promote the implementation of high-quality construction of new land-sea corridors in the western region proposed that by 2025, the three corridors of east, middle and west will be continuously strengthened, and the operation of corridors, ports and logistics hubs will be more efficient, and the driving effect of economic and industrial development along the route will be significantly enhanced. The overall goal.

The China-Laos Railway will undoubtedly help achieve the overall goal. This time, light commercial trucks produced by China National Heavy Duty Truck Chengdu Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd. were exported to Laos on a train, mainly serving the development of local construction, mining, and agriculture.

"In the past, products exported to Laos could only rely on roads, which took a long time and high costs. Nowadays, rail transportation saves a lot of manpower and time costs, which is beneficial to us to better serve the development of Laos and ASEAN countries." Sinotruk Chengdu Commercial Vehicle Said Wu Kunsheng, deputy secretary of the company's party committee.
