The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved a 300 million euro loan for the rail link between Istanbul and the European Turkish industrial center Cerkezkoy. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is co-financing the project with a loan of 150 million euros.

The electrified high-speed line will become part of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor, aimed at improving trade and transportation in the Black Sea Basin, South Caucasus and Central Asia. Supee Teravaninthorn, Director-General of Infrastructure of the AIIB, said: “The AIIB’s investment in this project is considered to be 100% climate mitigation financing and belongs to the bank’s transportation sector strategy.
