At 11:18 on December 26, 2021, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Yangqu Hydropower Station on the Yellow River by SPIC was officially held at the Yangqu Hydropower Station in Hainan Prefecture, Qinghai Province. The main riverbed of the Yangqu Hydropower Station on the Yellow River was closed, and construction of the main part of the project started in full.

Qinghai is one of the most important development areas of SPIC, and the upper reaches of the Yellow River in the territory is rich in hydropower resources. In accordance with the development principle of "basin, cascade, rolling, and comprehensive", SPIC built a dam on the Yellow River and built the upper reaches of the Yellow River into an important clean energy base in my country. It has successively built Longyangxia, Laxiwa, Lijiaxia, and Gongbo. A cluster of 10 cascade hydropower stations including the Gorge and Jishi Gorge.
The Yellow River Yangqu Hydropower Station is located at the junction of Xinghai County and Guinan County, Hainan Prefecture. It is a first-class (1) type project. It serves as the three planned cascade power stations of the upper reaches of the Longyangxia Hydropower Station on the mainstream of the Yellow River: "Ciha, Banduo and Yangqu" The lowest level. The total installed capacity of the power station is 1.2 million kilowatts, the total storage capacity of the reservoir is 1.639 billion cubic meters, the average annual utilization hours are 3943 hours, the average annual power generation capacity for many years is 4.732 billion kilowatt hours, and the total project investment is 17.06 billion yuan. Lv Gang, Secretary of the Hainan Prefecture Party Committee, said that the Yangqu Hydropower Station plays an important role in Hainan Prefecture’s construction of the main clean energy base in Qinghai Province. After the power station is completed and put into operation, it can save 1.467 million tons of standard coal consumption, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 4.412 million tons, and reduce carbon monoxide emissions. The amount of emissions is 385.8 tons, the emission of nitrogen dioxide is reduced by 16,956 tons, and the emission of harmful substances such as smoke and dust is reduced by 19,845 tons.
