Blue Circle and its partner Clean Tech Global Renewables, Inc. signed their first wind energy service contract for an offshore wind project in the Philippines, a 1.2GW project in Bulalacao, Eastern Mindoro. The developer said that Circle of Blue and Clean Tech had successfully secured the exclusivity of the Bulalacao site development through service contracts entered into in a competitive environment. The wind farm will be equipped with 100 turbines with a single capacity of 12 MW.

This is in line with a roadmap developed by the Philippine Department of Energy with assistance from the World Bank Group, which estimated the Philippines’ offshore wind potential at over 170 GW and selected Oriental Mindoro as the best offshore wind farm in the country. “After years of developing onshore wind projects in the Philippines, I am very excited about the potential of offshore wind in Bulalacao,” said Olivier Duguet, CEO of Blue Circle.

“The site is ideally located outside the main environmental constraints, away from the direct typhoon hit area, with strong winds in shallow to moderately deep waters. Blue Circle has a strong team of wind energy professionals with extensive experience in the development and operation of wind power projects in the ASEAN region. experience. Participate in the Philippine government’s efforts to achieve its carbon reduction goals and prepare the country for a more sustainable and greener expansion in the future. We look forward to working closely with our partner Cleantech Global Renewables, Inc., Harness the country’s best wind energy resources to drive economic growth by creating green jobs while protecting the environment.” According to the government’s Clean Energy Scenario (CES) outlined in the Philippines’ 2020-2040 Energy Plan, by 2040, the archipelago It needs to add at least 92 GW of renewable energy to its energy mix to reach 50% of the renewable energy share. About 11.8 GW is expected to come from various types of wind power projects. To meet the CES goals, Britain's BVGA estimates that the Philippines will need to operate four large offshore projects by 2040. Under the high growth scenario, the potential for offshore wind in the Philippines is 20 GW by 2040 and 40 GW by 2050. “Cleantech Global Renewables, Inc., with the continued support of partners such as The Blue Circle, is making a strong push to adopt new technologies and best practices to grow our renewable energy assets,” said Aboy Castro, CEO of Cleantech Global Renewables. The Lalakao Offshore Project will have a limited environmental footprint in a very favourable environment for wind power potential. The project has a land bank of approximately 40,095 hectares and is large in size for both floating and bottom-mounted wind turbines. I am enthusiastic and eager to build this important stepping stone for our nation’s sustainable development and energy independence.” The project is not on the list of projects approved by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) for system impact studies released by the Philippine Department of Energy. The list includes 17 offshore wind projects with a combined installed capacity of up to 11.6 GW. Five of these projects are in the gigawatt range.Editor/XingWentao
