The Mombasa oil terminal project in Kenya, which was built by a Chinese company, was completed a few days ago and is expected to be put into operation in May 2022. As a key project in Kenya, the project will greatly enhance the oil and gas transfer capacity of Mombasa Port after completion, injecting impetus into the economic development of Kenya and the entire East Africa region.

On January 6, Kenyan President Kenyatta met in Mombasa with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was invited to visit Kenya. After the talks, Wang Yi (right) was invited to attend the completion ceremony of the Mombasa Oil Terminal undertaken by China together with Kenyatta

Kenyan President Kenyatta recently inspected the project and said that the project will reduce Kenya's fuel costs and provide sufficient fuel for Kenya's development. Kenya needs this oil terminal to meet the country's development needs.

The head of the Kenya Port Authority said that after the completion of the new oil terminal project, it will bring a series of benefits such as shortening the turnaround time of ships, ensuring supply security, reducing transportation costs, and improving fuel processing efficiency.

The Mombasa Port Oil Terminal, built in 1963, is an important channel for the import and export of oil products in Kenya and neighboring countries, and has made great contributions to the local economic development. Since the original capacity of the terminal can no longer meet the needs of Kenya's rapid economic development, Kenya began to build a new oil terminal project in 2012. China Communications Construction Co., Ltd. won the bid for the project in 2018, and construction will begin in 2019.
