The Taklimakan Desert is located in the center of the Tarim Basin in southern Xinjiang. It is the largest desert in China and the tenth largest desert in the world. It is also the second largest mobile desert in the world. The desert vegetation is extremely scarce and almost no area is covered by plants. Taklamakan often called it the "Sea of Death." The large-scale oil and gas exploration and development that began in the early 1990s awakened the sleeping Taklimakan Desert. The depths of the desert are rich in petroleum resources, which require large machinery and equipment to extract, and the oil and gas resources produced need to be transported to urban and rural areas. Therefore, an industry such as petroleum geophysical prospecting has emerged.

Due to the high labor intensity and harsh working environment in the petroleum geophysical prospecting industry, there are few female employees. However, more than 60 females from the 2113 team of the Geophysical Prospecting Division of the Tarim Geophysical Exploration Co., Ltd. have long been rooted in the hinterland of the Taklimakan Desert in Xinjiang.
