In mid-January 2022, construction work has already begun on the Sill Gorge-Pfons tunnel junction, the longest section of the Brenner Base Tunnel project in Austria. The €651 million contract for the construction of the road section was awarded to a consortium H41 Sill Gorge–Pfons comprising Implenia Österreich, Implenia Schweiz, Webuild, CSC Costruzioni and the Swiss subsidiary of Webuild.
Webuild is involved in three lots of the €2 billion Brenner Base Tunnel. Following the completion of Lot Tulfes-Pfons (completed), the company is already working on other lots of the project such as the Isarco River Underpass and Mules2-3 (65% complete). Webuild is also building a railway between Fortezza and Ponte Gardena, south of the tunnel. The section stretches from Sill Gorge through the Ahrental valley to Pfonsam Brenner for a total length of 14.3 km. Construction work will be completed within 80 months.
In order to ensure the fastest progress of the entire project, the SillGorge–Pfons (H41) site has been extended 3 kilometers south of the main tunnel tube, which will be connected to the future construction site H53 Pfons-Brenner. The construction of the Sill Gorge–Pfons tunnel involved extending the railway from Goladel Sill near the city of Innsbruck to the town of Pfons further south. A total of 24.8 kilometers of tunnels are excavated, of which 22.5 kilometers are main tunnel pipes and 38 lateral passages, with a total length of 2.3 kilometers. About 8.3 kilometers of tunnels will be excavated, including auxiliary tunnels, while mechanized methods will be used for another 16.5 kilometers. Access to the new underground construction site will be through the Ahrental Access Tunnel already completed at the E41 Ahrental Exploration Lot. The new H41 site represents work on the H33 Tulfes-Pfons site, which was successfully completed in early May 2021. Under Lot H33, a 42-kilometer tunnel system was excavated, including a 15-kilometer section of exploration tunnels.EditorXingWentao
