The Guangzhou Rail Transit Line 18/22 construction project has attracted much attention as the subway project with the largest investment in China. CRCC has tailored 52 shield machines for the project, setting a world record for the largest group of shield machines used in a single project, helping the construction of the Guangzhou Metro and serving the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Guangzhou, China's southern gate to the world, is the "C-city" in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Subway, the first choice for urban green and convenient travel. However, Guangzhou is located in the alluvial plain of the Pearl River Delta, which is a unique geological fault structure and is known as the "Geological Museum". The subway project is spread all over Huacheng, with 33 comprehensive hubs reaching 7 districts. The subway is built deep in the stratum, and it crosses the difficult and dangerous areas like "tofu". The safety risk is high and the construction is difficult. It is impossible to complete it by relying on a single shield machine.

During the excavation process, the 52 shield machines of CRCC had to pass through the rivers, existing operating subway lines, village shops and houses and other risk sources successively, and the vertical clear distance between the interval tunnels and the existing operating tunnels was only 5.5 meters. There are 11 rivers with a width of more than 200 meters, and the longest is 1600 meters.

In response to these geological problems, Tiejian Heavy Industry has developed and designed a number of technologies such as frozen cutter head, telescopic main drive, tool status monitoring mode, etc., and dispatched a professional technical service team of 200 people, with the world's largest 52 shield machine groups. The formed "underground aircraft carrier" will help the construction of Guangzhou Metro and serve the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
